Tidying up my makeup stash

I am a makeup junky and a hoarder as I like to use up everything I got. I try this as otherwise it feels like a waste of money getting rid of something that was not used. I like to try new things but with that comes a lot of stuff that just do not work for me. I normally try to keep things and give them a try as much as I can but sometimes you have to admit to yourself that it is time to stop and give up.

I am trying to declutter my makeup stash (as you might have noticed from some previous posts). One I do not want to use things that have expired but I also need to be honest with myself that if I have not used something for a long time it is time for it to go.

First up is Kiko Extra Sculpt Volume Mascara. I have heard Kathleen Lights rave about this mascara but I found it blah! I did not like the brush on the wand it was too big and cumbersome for me to use. It did not make my lashes look amazing so I have moved on to things that I like more. Another Kiko product that I am chucking away that was bearly used is their Universal Fit foundation. I have an oily combination skin and this foundation disappears from my face in a few hours. I need a long lasting coverage so this will never work for me.

Max Factor  Face Finity Foundation is going away from my stash because the shade is not right for me. It has pinky undertone and does not suit me at all. I do not reach for it and it just takes up space. I will not use it up and sadly I have to get rid of it.

I have had this Effaclar Duo + serum for a really long time. Bought it because everyone was raving about it but then I do not suffer from acne anymore so I do not use it. I have had it for too long to keep it so off it goes too.

The last item I am throwing away is by Collection and it is their Eyeshadow Pencil. This one always crumbles on my and does not apply or blend in a nice way. I do not reach for it and I do not like using it. (Saying that I do have another two shades and those are staying).

How often do you guys declutter your makeup? Do you feel bad when you have to get rid of stuff as I do? (I always do but have to keep telling myself that this is a must).

La Roche-Posay Rosaliac UV Legere Review

la roche-posay rosaliac review

Please meet my new morning moisturiser the Rosaliac UV Legere from La Roche-Posay (what a name!)

Rosaliac UV Legere is a moisturiser designed for people who suffer from facial redness and sensitive skin. There are two formulations of this cream and Legere is supposed to be the lighter consistency of the two. It’s still a little bit heavier than what I normally use for mornings but as we are now in the time of colder weather it will be perfect. The cream comes out looking slightly green but it in no way translates on the skin, it does not act as a green concealer and blends into the skin as a normal moisturiser would. There are no treatments for people who suffer from rosacea but using products such as Rosaliac UV Legere should help your skin to soothe it and attempt to control the way skin behaves. Sunscreen is also included into this moisturisers so if you are like me and forget to apply sunscreen on a day to day basis then this should have you covered at least on winter time.

I am pleased to call it a very good simple moisturiser and simple should in no way mean not that great. I use simple to mean that it does not contain any unnecessary ingredients that would clog your skin or cause any unwanted reactions. I hope that with the longer use it will help to control my rosacea and help with evening out the redness and making it less apparent. You can’t go wrong with La Roche-Posay products and this one is a true gem for red, sensitive, irritated skin.

Do you guys have any other good moisturiser to offer? If you have Bloglovin then you can follow me on there too.

An Empty Affair – August Empties 2015 Part 2

I bring you the part two of my August Empties posts. I must say that it is very nice to be writing this post because this means that I can finally clear out the shelve where I was keeping all this “rubbish” and actually through it out. Now that is a very satisfactory feeling. Here is what I am binning:

Patisserie Strawberry Cupcake Hand Cream – I always keep a hand cream on my work desk. One of my previous colleagues many years ago now said that she makes sure to moisturise her hands as they are used the most therefore the ageing process is most visible on them. Since then I make sure to take care of my hands. If I look after my face then I need to take care of my hands as much.

Burt’s Bees Honey Hand Cream – unfortunately this hand cream was not one my favourites. I don’t like honey and the smell of the hand cream puts me off.

Dove Purely Pampering Hand Cream –  another hand cream. I used this a lot after climbing as I always need cream after a climbing session.

La Roche Posay Nutritic Lip Balm – this is a very nice lip balm that feels light on the lips but does a good job of moisturising them. I have another one already and it’s a great one to keep at work.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – I have a post about this mascara (here) but I must say that since I have written it up I have changed my mind a little bit. At the end of using it I started liking a bit more than I originally did. I am now thinking that I should buy another tube of this and give it a second go to see what I really feel about it.

Hydraluron Moisture Gelly – a very nice day time moisturiser. I will definitely be getting this again one day.

Zara White Perfume – I do like this perfume and I like more that it does not break the bank.

Soap & Glory Ultimelt Hot Cloth Cleanser – It’s a nice hot cloth cleanser but I don’t know if I will be purchasing it again. It’s got a lot of essential oils and my sensitive skin does not like them too much. It also has some strong smell that I am not keen on. It’s nice but it’s just not meant for me.

La Roche Posay Serozinc – Need to get my hands on another bottle of this. I like to bathe myself in it and I miss it.

Dr Bronner in Bergamot – I used this soap for cleaning my brushes. It’s nice but it’s a little bit too pricey. I think I will stick to baby shampoos for washing make up brushes.

The Body Shop Honey Body Cream – I finaly used it up. As in my many posts I’m not the biggest fan of the Body Shop creams but I keep getting them as presents. The irony..

What should I get next to replace some of these products? Do you use any of them?

An Empty Affair – April Empties 2015

Spring is finally here and I have started sorting out slowly through my make up stash and clearing out things that are old or not used any more. I have also been trying to finish up products so that I would have less of them (*or space for new stuff?*). These are the items that I have binned:

Dove Hair Nourishing Oil Care Leave-In Spray – I’m not sure if this did anything for my hair but I liked using it for the smell, it’s really nice. This leave in spray needs to be shaken before the use as it has two different layers which need to be mixed up. I actually did not finish this product because just as I had a quarter of it left the spray nozzle stopped working and did not distribute the product when spraying any more. I decided to give up and and just bin it. If you guys know any good detangling sprays please could you let me know?

Une Breezy Cheeks Blushes – these are cream blushes that I’ve got from fragrancedirect.co.uk. Une was a brand sold in Boots a while ago but disappeared from the shops very quickly. The blushes that I’ve got where quite brownish. burnt orange type colours that did not suit me at all. I wasn’t really using them and decided that there’s now point in keeping them – I will not use them and they will just take space in my drawers.

La Roche-Posay Serozinc – the much coveted French zinc spray that’s supposed to calm your skin and keep spots at bay. I’m not sure if this one also does much to my skin but I have used it up and have a second one on the go. I have rosacea so anything that claims to keep your skin calm and happy will be used by me.

L’occitane Rose Ultra Rich Body Cream – the cream was nice and it was used up by myself and my Man. I’m not too keen on Rose scented products so I don’t think I will rush to purchase this one.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion – love, love, love this product! I raved about it here and I will one day pick it up again.

Dove Maximum Protection Antiperspirant with Cucumber & Tea extracts – this deodorant is nice and I like to use it but can I just ask why the price is so high? Also, why do we have so little choice of cream deodorants here in UK? The shelves in the shops are crammed with the sprays but there is very little option of nice cream deodorants. I just going to wait till it’s on a discount to buy it cause I just don’t agree with paying £5 for an antiperspirant.

Make Up Forever Smoky Lash Mascara – I had high hopes for this mascara but it did not live up what the rest of youtube/blogging world have promised it to be. It was supposed to be a much better version of the L’Oreal Miss Manga mascara but actually the L’Oreal option is way better. It did not do much to my lashes, I felt like it was actually quite clumpy and instead of giving proper volume it just stuck lashes together. If there is one thing I can suggest is not to splurge on this one and just get a cheaper better alternative from the high-street. (Now when I think how I looked through Barcelona for Sephora to buy this makes me sad. So much effort for such disappointment.)

Philosophy Hope in a Jar moisturiser – I had this little sample pot from an order I made with Debenhams and was happy to try it out instead of splurging for the full size. I did not enjoy it as I felt like it was quite heavily scented and the scent was not very pleasing to my taste. Good to try it but would not go in any effort to purchase it.

Artdeco Eyeshadow Base – This eyeshadow base is similar to the famous MAC paint pots offer. I think Artdeco sell this in one colour but it would work on anyone. This is actually quite a great little product and I have gone through two of them. They do dry out so you need to use eyeshadows quite often to use up the whole little pot. If you can easily get your hands on Artdeco products then this is one to pick up. I don’t think I’m going to get this again because they are not sold everywhere as well as I think that Maybelline cream eyeshadows are the best thing ever.

This time I have finished some loves, some ok products and some products that were not worth it. Have you tried any of these items, what do you think about them?

One out, one in #1

9r481

One in, one out… Is the concept I try to go by and at which I normally miserably fail.  Use one product up and replace it with another one whilst trying not to buy three similar things as well.

This time I finished using La Roche Posay Physiological cleansing gel and have replaced it with Cetaphil cleanser. I really enjoyed using the Physiological gel and I feel like my skin quite liked it too. Not only that it is made for sensitive skin but also works well for combination skin. It felt quite cooling and non greasy which is what you want when you have rosacea with combination skin. Maybe one day I will get it again but this time I did replace it with something else as it’s always interesting to try something new.  The new thing in my bathroom stash is Cetaphil. I got it from the chemist as I’ve heard a lot about it how it is prescribed by doctors for people that have bad skin problems. I really looked forward on trying it out with the hope that it might make big difference to my skin but I must say… I don’t really like it. Not sure why but I’m not a massive fan of the texture. It feels a little bit gritty though I can’t see why it would and actually does feel like it would suit more of the dry skin peeps than combination ones.

One in, one out… And another one to help me go through the one I don’t really like.

What do you guys do? Do you try to finish a product before buying another one or do you buy few in one go?
