December Makeup Empties

The third post of my empties involves makeup products. Can you believe I have finished all of these?! Technically there are a few disappointing products that I am chucking away but most of them as you can see are properly empty things.

Eyeko Fat Brush Mascara – a mascara that did nothing to my lashes. If you like no makeup makeup maybe this one is for you but even if I have very minimal makeup on I want my lashes to stand out so I want my mascara to work for me. I think I am never going to get another Eyeko mascara as I have always been disappointed with them.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer – one of my favourite concealers. It’s an amazing product and very affordable. I will for sure get this again.

Eylure Brow Pencil in Dark Brown – I love this eyebrow pencil. It’s hard but not too hard, does not drag on your skin and leaves enough product. It has a spooly on another end so you always have something to brush your brows with. The pencil has lasted quite long so if you want to buy something that you don’t need to re-purchase too quickly then I recommend this brow pencil.

Essence Brow Gel – one of my faves! I will dedicate a post for this product on it’s own. It’s that good!

Collection Fast Stroke Eyeliner – A great eyeliner, easy to use and is jet black matte.

Gosh Lip Oil – a very interesting lip moisturiser. I’m not sure how hydrating it really was but I loved the texture of the product and kept using it up just because of that.

Bodyshop Honey Bronze Drops – I really liked using this in summer. Not sure if it did give me much of a bronzed look but then I did use it all up, so maybe it did do what it was saying it would?

L’Oreal Slim Line Eyeliner – I liked this felt tip eyeliner, it was black, stayed well on my eyes and very easy to use.

EX1 Invisiwear Foundation in F100 – this is one of my favourite foundations and I wore it on my wedding day. I already have another tube of this magic in my stash.

L’Oreal Infallible Fixing Mist – a good highstreet makeup fixing mist. Good choice when on a budget which I normally am on.

Vichy Dermablend Translucent Powder – I cannot believe that I have used this up. Has anyone ever used up a big tub of translucent powder? I enjoyed using this and even more happy that I have finished it (only because I want to try other things)

L’Oreal Miss Hippy Mascara – one of my most favourite mascaras. It makes your lashes voluminous and dark. This was my mascara choice for my wedding and I need another tube of this goodness. I need to dedicate a post to this mascara.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – I have gone through multiple tubs of this. I use it for spot concealing or when the foundation did not cover enough of my rosacea and I need to add some more coverage for some parts of my face.

Becca Eye Brightening Corrector – I was given this by my friend as she found it did not cover her dark circles enough. I had quite high hopes for this product but I did not like it at all. It’s sticky and thick but not in a good way, it does not correct the blue circles and it makes any concealer crease which does not happen to me normally. It’s not worth the money or the effort in my opinion.

L’Oreal Nude Cushion Foundation – I have finished this quite quickly. I think I will write a separate post on this foundation so wait for my full review.

Phew, I don’t think I have ever managed to finish that many makeup products around the same time. I wonder if I bought them all around the same time and if that’s the case then maybe I should cap in my makeup hoarding….. Emmm… Yeah, not going to happen.

High Street Makeup Setting Sprays Review

I have been watching a lot of makeup gurus for a long time and one thing that has not escaped me is how they all use some sort of makeup setting sprays. I have been coveting to use them myself but the products that they normally use and their price has never been what I could allow myself. Then suddenly around similar time two high street brands have came out with their versions of makeup setting sprays and I was all over them like a bee around a flower.

The firs one I got was Maybelline offering called Super Stay 24 Makeup Locking Setting Spray. It’s a 75ml bottle so it’s slightly on a smaller side and as such I tend to take it with me when I cycle and need to carry all of my makeup to work. The spray bottle works pretty ok and I never feel like my face got drenched too much. I do think it helps to keep the makeup that tad bit longer and it also freshens up the make up not to look too powdery.

The second makeup spray I have got hold of is L’Oreal Infallible Fixing Mist. When it came out I was surprised to find it looking quite different then the one in US. I have never tried US version but I always thought that they would release the same packaging, the same spray bottle as they have in US. L’Oreal fixing mist also works well to finish off makeup and keep a tiny bit of additional longevity.  The bottle is slightly bigger and contains 100ml of product. I think that the spray is tiny bit harsher than the Maybelline one but overall still very nice and distributes just enough product.

Super Stay 24 Setting Spray and Infallible Fixing Mist need to be shaken before the use and both do very similar job. They cost around the same amount with a £1 difference between them. I want to say that maybe the Infallible Fixing Mist would be a better purchase just because it has more product but whichever you choose to go with you will get a good product. Now I am like those makeup gurus always finish my makeup with some spritz of a makeup setting mist.

Have you tried any of these makeup sprays? Or would you have any affordable alternatives to suggest to me?

An Emptie Affair – Makeup Empties

My last (but not least) empties post consists of used up makeup products. I don’t go through makeup that very quickly so it’s quite surprising to have a small batch items sitting empty on my shelves.

L’Oreal False Lash Flutter Mascara – I love L’Oreal Miss Manga Mascara therefore I thought that I would love this one too but the feeling was opposite. I really disliked it, every time I used it the wand would somehow poke a corner of my eye which would hurt like a bitch. The mascara always crumbled under my eyes which no other mascara has done before. I am chucking out and quite happy to do so.

L’Oreal True Match ‘the concealer’ in 2 Vanilla – this concealer is truly great. I have mentioned it before in one of my favourites (here). I like to try different concealers but I know that one day I will have it in my possession again.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 3 Warm Medium – my favourite concealer for spots and face discoloration. I have never been without it and I already have a replacement in same colour. (This tube has exploded on me which is quite an annoying thin but the new tube does not seem to be doing it or showing any signs of ever splashing out of the tube.)

Kiko Eye Base – one of the best affordable eyeshadow bases. I loved using it and it has featured in my favourites (like this one) quite a lot of times. If you ever go to Kiko stores and please pick this up because you really don’t need to spend much money for a good product.

The Body Shop Aloe Vera Eye Cream – ok, so technically this is not a makeup product. I kind of messed up and photographed it not with skincare stuff that I featured in last post. (Check out skincare empties from last Saturday). This eye cream is really nice and soothing, quite gentle and great for people who want to start taking care of their under eyes but don’t need any heavy duty products.

Phew, this is all of my empties for now. It took me quite a while to write up all the posts and whilst I was doing that I have already been gathering some new finished products. But I promise I will not throw more empties at you for a little while.

An Empty Affair – Hair Care Empties

I have a massive pile of used up products and it took me a lot of effort to kick my ass and get them sorted out. It’s very hard to motivate myself to take any pictures in winter when there is no light and darkness rules every single day. But I have finally picked up my camera and did some shots. Be prepared for an overload of empties posts, I had so much stuff saved up in the last couple of months that I had to split things apart. This empty products post consists of used up hair care items, I hope you will enjoy it.

John Frieda Beach Blonde Conditioner and Sea Salt Spray – I have reviewed these two before. One day I will be purchasing them again. I do like to try different hair products so I might not rush to get them but I did like them very much so I know that one day they will end up in my shelves again.

CoLab Dry Shampoo in Tokyo – This is my favourite dry shampoo. I am currently trying out a different scent of the same brand. I want to try each one before I can tell you my exact favourite scent.

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil – this is a really lovely hair oil. I have fine hair that can be weighed down very easily and I found that this oil does not do that. The bottle lasted me for a couple of years which is amazing. Because I want to try other oils I will not be purchasing it any time soon. However, if you are in the market for a new oil and want to get a product that will last you then I recommend to go for the Extraordinary Oil. It’s really good.

OGX Sea Mineral Moisture Shampoo – I am still on the roll for the beachy waves look. This shampoo does smell a little bit like seaweed but nothing too strong. I think that the John Frieda offering is slightly nicer. I like OGX shampoos in general but I did not fall in love this one.

What have you guys used up in the last month or so?

Favourite 2015 Blog Posts

Looking back I cannot believe that I have posted pretty consistently throughout last year. I thought that I would lose interest and energy to keep it up but I have found joy and pleasure in creating a little space for myself. I hope I can keep it up in this new year too but today I would like to mention a few posts that are my personal favourites from last year.

October Favourites 2015

october 2015 favourites

I have a few definite products that I have reached for in October. I’m pretty sure that I have used them if not every day then definitely every other day.

First up the obvious product that I have recently reviews. Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist is a fairly new product that I am enjoying using. If you want to know what I really think about it then I have linked the post for you. (I will also say “click here“.) Bahama Mama is my current to go to product for bronzing/contouring. It does great job for both and looks very natural on me. Please ignore the dirty packaging, I don’t think there is any way to keep it clean as it is made out of cardboard but hey, I can look past that as the actual product is good.

I like to wear an eyeliner pretty much every day as I want to make my eyes stand out from under glasses. Collection Fast Stroke Eyeliner has been doing a great job for creating definition. It’s super affordable, well pigmented and stays on me for the whole day (I am not exaggerating). Again, excuse the packaging, I keep cleaning it up but it seems I keep on getting one of my concealers exploding on me constantly. Talking about eyes I have also been getting some good use from L’Oreal La Palatte Nude Rose. It has a beautiful selection of eyeshadows which lean towards rosy pink shades. I like this palatte for the colours, for the slim packaging and how versatile it is. I’ve been using it quite a bit in the last month and don’t see myself deviating from it any time soon.

These are all great products and I feel like this is what I still will be using in this coming month. What have you guys been loving recently?

An Empty Affair – August Empties 2015 Part 1

I have accumulated quite a few empty products, so much so that I can’t fit everything into one post. I have decided that I will split up my empties post into two parts, one for hair & bath products and the other one for everything else. Here’s what I have finished using up:

Dove Oxygen Hair Mask – I used this actually as a conditioner for my hair rather than a hair mask (though you can use it as it suggest). I just found it to be really great for conditioning your hair as it is quite lite and would never weight down my hear or leave it greasy. I definitely recommend to try this out if you want something that works well on your hair but leaves no traces afterwords.

L’Oreal Wild Stylers Beach Waves – this is a sea salt spray for your hair as you might catch from it’s name. It’s a first sea salt spray I have ever used and this is the product that began my search for the perfect beachy hair. The mist that comes out is really fine and I even like the smell of it which is a tiny bit seaweedy. What was interesting with this product was that you could not apply too much of it, it never made my hair feel like I applied too heavily and I never ended up with crispy hair. That does not happen often with hair products.

Imperial Leather Foamburst in Bergamot and Sea Minerals – I use this shower gel as a shaving cream. It’s cheap and cheerful and is much better than splashing out on real shaving gels. I will be getting another one of those but my favourite scent is Blackberry & Wild Fig so I will be getting that one instead.

OGX Kukui Oil Shampoo – I got this shampoo with the hope that it will tame my frizzy hair. Whilst I can’t say that it definitely did amazing wonders I really enjoyed using this shampoo. Not too sure how much frizziness it took care off but it did leave my hair soft, clean and bouncy.  I think I want to try other ranges from this brand so what’s this space for more proper reviews.

Carex Complete Hand Wash in Strawberry Laces – because life is too short to be grown up and serious. What can I say?

Dove Silk Glow – I got this body wash after a famous youtuber mentioning that it leaves you feeling the same as L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil. I love Dove products which you might have noticed and there is nothing wrong with this shower gel but it does not compare to the Almond Shower Oil. Just shows that sometimes I should go with my gut instead of listening to comments that try to compare different products incorrectly.

The Body Shop Chocolate Shower Gel – smelled like chocolate and was very nice to use after long cycles. Not much to say about this one either.

Part of my August Empties has come to the finish. I will be writing about all other used up products in my next post. If you have used these products or you have some good alternatives to offer let me know.

June Favourites 2015

The month of June has seen me switching some products up but at the same time sticking to some of which I know will be repurchased for ever. This time it was not hard to choose products that I have loved in the past month. Here they are:

L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper in Dark Brunette – The best brow product on the market right now! It tints the brows but also holds their shape. The applicator is small enough so it is easy to use and it never picks up too much product therefore you don’t have to be afraid that you will end up with the hard crispy brows. I love this brow tint and will soon be buying another one as I am running out.

Hydraluron Moisture Jelly – I find that gel type moisturisers are the best for me because I have a combination skin and I also really don’t like when my skin feels very greasy and slippy which a lot of rich moisturisers do. This is a great option for a morning moisturiser, it is full of hyaluronic acid that helps skin to retain moisture better. Though my skin is a combination skin it is also a dehydrated one so it definitely needs moisture and this product provides just that. I like this one more than the Hydraluron Moisture Serum. If you ever tried the serum and did not like the stickiness that it leaves then give this a shot as it is much better in my opinion.

Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder – there is not much that one can say about a powder but this one is truly great. One of the best powders that I have used and it is super affordable. I really like this one and I have recently hit the pan (super exciting!) and that just shows how much I have enjoyed using it.

Rimmel Matte BB Cream in Light – In the past few weeks the weather has been getting a little bit better and bringing some proper summer to our shores. I have found that my daily bases were too heavy for my liking so I opted to swap them with the BB creams that I’ve got. I find that Rimmel offer is really great especially when it gets hot. Because it is matte it helps to keep the skin from getting too shiny too quickly. It does not cover everything but paired with a concealer it is pretty great. It feels light on the skin and with a bit of powder on top it is a great summer base. One thing to warn you about that the shade Light is not that light in reality. I can wear it only when I have a little bit of a tan so if you are a very fair person it might not suit you.

Bourjois Bronzing Primer – I have been enjoying using this as a bronzer again. It warms up the skin very beautifully and because it is a cream product it blends out pretty well. Seems like I always pick up Bourjois Bronzing Primer when it gets warm and I am always surprised how nice it is.

Real Techiniques Countour Brush – this brush is from the latest released kit and I have found it to be great for applying cream bronzers such as the one above. It is shaped to fall into your natural hollows of your face but it is firm enough to blend any product seamlessly. I have seen some other people using it for foundation application which I haven’t tried yet but might do one day.

These are my June favourites. I look forward to seeing what the next month will bring on. If you have used any of the mentioned products let me know what you think about them and if you know of any good alternatives then also give a shout out.

An Empty Affair – June Empties 2015

Another month and another instalment of an empties post. I don’t like to collect too many empty products so I prefer to write a post about used up products as soon as I have a few empty pots on my desk.

First up, I have used up the cheapest shampoo that I haver ever tried and that is Superdrug 3 in 1 Conditioning Shampoo. I really liked it and it’s great for a sensitive scalp. You should not be deterred by the conditioning part as it did not leave my hear greasy or with too much product in it. I think I will definitely get this again one of these days.

Carrying on with the in shower products theme I have also finished The Body Shop Honey Scrub. This was kind of useless product. It’s supposed to be a scrub but it did not do well to actual scrub my skin. I felt like it’s just a body butter with some grainy texture but it was not good enough to really take off dead skin. I will not be purchasing this scrub but I am keen to try other scrubs that The Body Shop offer.

After I leave shower I really like to apply body lotion or some body oil. Sanctuary Spa Body Moisture Spray is the best dry body oil I have used so far. I really love! It smells great for one, it is dry oil so you never end up feeling greasy and it absorbs super quickly. I have a second small bottle of it in my work to use it when I shower at work after cycling and I have bought a big bottle to keep it at home.

I always try to remember to moisturise my hands. Once I read that a woman’s age can be given away by looking at her hands. It is true that we put hands through a lot but not often we take care of them. I always keep some sort of hand moisturiser at work so that after every hand wash I could give some moisture back. I have finished Mandara Spa Sandalwood hand moisturiser and I am very sad that I can’t find it again. I love sandalwood smell and this hand cream smelled divine. I found it in Sainsbury’s so if anyone spots it back please let me know! I need another bottle of this in my life.

I have also used up Dove Pure deodorant. It’s simple, has no perfume but I prefer stick form deodorants so I won’t be buying it again. Well, unless I can’t get my hands on any good stick form deodorants.

I have finished L’oreal Skin Perfection primer. I liked it for smoothing out the skin and making a nice canvas for applying foundation over the top. I’m not sure if I will be buying this as I want to try other primers for now.

Can’t count how many tubes of Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer I have gone through. I have been using the colour 2 Medium Cool but I have realised that it’s a bit too pink toned so now I have colour 3 Warm Medium which is more of a yellow toned which is better for hiding my redness.

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Nudist is my first lip product that I have fully finished. I love it that much that I have nothing left in the tube. I want to go through the multitude of other lip products that I have but I’m pretty sure that I will be re-purchasing Nudist some time in the future.

This is what I have used up in June. I though that as these products were going to end up in the bin it was right to take the picture of them on the bin 🙂

Have you guys tried any of these products? Do you have any alternatives to suggest?

May Favourites 2015

I know that we are heading towards the end of June but I only now have time to sit down and write up what I have been loving in May. My May favourites is a small collection of last months products that have been a true stand-outs from my collection. Here is what impressed me:

Seventeen Skin Wow! Highlighter – I had this Seventeen highlighter for a while but only in the last month I started to really use it and I have come to love it. It’s a pearlescent white liquid highlighter and I like to use it on top of cheekbones over my foundation. You need only a tiny bit of it so it will last a long time and it will not break your bank. If you are a person who likes to mix some highlighters with your foundation then this is a great product for that too. My skin is too oily to do that but I would if I needed more glow on my skin.

L’oreal True Match ‘the concealer’ – this is an amazing concealer for your under eye area. It has good coverage but it is still creamy enough to blend out nicely and it does not crease at all. I use colour 2 Vanilla and it is light enough for highlighting whilst covering dark circles too. This is the nicest concealer I have found from the high-street and I will definitely be getting this again once I run out.

Kiko Eye Base Primer – the best affordable eye primer I have found so far. You need only a very tiny bit to cover your eyelids and it keeps your eyeshadows in place for the whole day. If you have never tried this before then I cannot recommend it more highly enough. Give it a try because I think this is as good as some of the high end offerings.

NYX Slide On pencil in 07 Jet Black – this is such a good black pencil. The Slide On pencil feels like a gel type of product so it is soooo easy to apply. You don’t need to use any pressure on your eyes and it does not tug them at all. I’ve been really liking using it for lining my eyes instead of a liquid liner.

TheBalm Betty-Lou Manizer – I believe this is sold as a highlighter but bronzy highlighters don’t look great on my cheekbones, I always need something more light rather than tanned coloured. So I have been using this as an all over bronzer. I’ve been using it for the whole month but I’m not yet sure if I’m fully in love with it. It is quite pigmented and a little bit hard to blend (or maybe I haven’t found the right way yet). If anyone has any suggestions on how to blend this to look a little bit more natural please let me know as I want to keep on using this. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful product.

And here are my May favourites. This post is short but definitely filled with good products. What have you been loving in the past month? Have you tried any of these products?
