December Makeup Empties

The third post of my empties involves makeup products. Can you believe I have finished all of these?! Technically there are a few disappointing products that I am chucking away but most of them as you can see are properly empty things.

Eyeko Fat Brush Mascara – a mascara that did nothing to my lashes. If you like no makeup makeup maybe this one is for you but even if I have very minimal makeup on I want my lashes to stand out so I want my mascara to work for me. I think I am never going to get another Eyeko mascara as I have always been disappointed with them.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer – one of my favourite concealers. It’s an amazing product and very affordable. I will for sure get this again.

Eylure Brow Pencil in Dark Brown – I love this eyebrow pencil. It’s hard but not too hard, does not drag on your skin and leaves enough product. It has a spooly on another end so you always have something to brush your brows with. The pencil has lasted quite long so if you want to buy something that you don’t need to re-purchase too quickly then I recommend this brow pencil.

Essence Brow Gel – one of my faves! I will dedicate a post for this product on it’s own. It’s that good!

Collection Fast Stroke Eyeliner – A great eyeliner, easy to use and is jet black matte.

Gosh Lip Oil – a very interesting lip moisturiser. I’m not sure how hydrating it really was but I loved the texture of the product and kept using it up just because of that.

Bodyshop Honey Bronze Drops – I really liked using this in summer. Not sure if it did give me much of a bronzed look but then I did use it all up, so maybe it did do what it was saying it would?

L’Oreal Slim Line Eyeliner – I liked this felt tip eyeliner, it was black, stayed well on my eyes and very easy to use.

EX1 Invisiwear Foundation in F100 – this is one of my favourite foundations and I wore it on my wedding day. I already have another tube of this magic in my stash.

L’Oreal Infallible Fixing Mist – a good highstreet makeup fixing mist. Good choice when on a budget which I normally am on.

Vichy Dermablend Translucent Powder – I cannot believe that I have used this up. Has anyone ever used up a big tub of translucent powder? I enjoyed using this and even more happy that I have finished it (only because I want to try other things)

L’Oreal Miss Hippy Mascara – one of my most favourite mascaras. It makes your lashes voluminous and dark. This was my mascara choice for my wedding and I need another tube of this goodness. I need to dedicate a post to this mascara.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – I have gone through multiple tubs of this. I use it for spot concealing or when the foundation did not cover enough of my rosacea and I need to add some more coverage for some parts of my face.

Becca Eye Brightening Corrector – I was given this by my friend as she found it did not cover her dark circles enough. I had quite high hopes for this product but I did not like it at all. It’s sticky and thick but not in a good way, it does not correct the blue circles and it makes any concealer crease which does not happen to me normally. It’s not worth the money or the effort in my opinion.

L’Oreal Nude Cushion Foundation – I have finished this quite quickly. I think I will write a separate post on this foundation so wait for my full review.

Phew, I don’t think I have ever managed to finish that many makeup products around the same time. I wonder if I bought them all around the same time and if that’s the case then maybe I should cap in my makeup hoarding….. Emmm… Yeah, not going to happen.

Maybelline Color Drama Lip Pain Review

I like various lip products but my favourite must be hybrids between lipsticks and lipglosses. I like to have an opaque colour on and at the same time I like the product to apply easily, stay on well enough and not dry my lips. Therefore it is not a surprise that when I saw Maybelline Color Drama Lip Paints on the shop shelves I have picked some up.

Maybelline claims that these lip products have an intense colour and they do not lie. These are one of the best pigmented glosses I have ever used. I call them glosses as they are not straight liquid lipstick, as such, they apply easily and they do stain your lips a little bit so when wearing off they do that evenly. Color Drama Lip Paints are super easy to use and to wear. I have two colours Stripped Down which is a very nice nude and Fight Me Fuchsia which does not need explanation. Normally I am not a bright colour wearer and when I was buying these I thought that Fight Me Fuchsia is going to be a waste of my money but I was quite wrong. I love it! I have worn it on a night out, I have worn it to work and I think it’s a bright colour that you can pull off for any occasion. I also keep reaching for Stripped Down whenever I am getting ready for work and have no time to think what lip colour would work, it goes well with any look.

I am very impressed with this new Maybelline release and I know for sure I will be using these up and getting new ones when time comes. Have you tried Color Drama Lip Paints? What do you think?

High Street Makeup Setting Sprays Review

I have been watching a lot of makeup gurus for a long time and one thing that has not escaped me is how they all use some sort of makeup setting sprays. I have been coveting to use them myself but the products that they normally use and their price has never been what I could allow myself. Then suddenly around similar time two high street brands have came out with their versions of makeup setting sprays and I was all over them like a bee around a flower.

The firs one I got was Maybelline offering called Super Stay 24 Makeup Locking Setting Spray. It’s a 75ml bottle so it’s slightly on a smaller side and as such I tend to take it with me when I cycle and need to carry all of my makeup to work. The spray bottle works pretty ok and I never feel like my face got drenched too much. I do think it helps to keep the makeup that tad bit longer and it also freshens up the make up not to look too powdery.

The second makeup spray I have got hold of is L’Oreal Infallible Fixing Mist. When it came out I was surprised to find it looking quite different then the one in US. I have never tried US version but I always thought that they would release the same packaging, the same spray bottle as they have in US. L’Oreal fixing mist also works well to finish off makeup and keep a tiny bit of additional longevity.  The bottle is slightly bigger and contains 100ml of product. I think that the spray is tiny bit harsher than the Maybelline one but overall still very nice and distributes just enough product.

Super Stay 24 Setting Spray and Infallible Fixing Mist need to be shaken before the use and both do very similar job. They cost around the same amount with a £1 difference between them. I want to say that maybe the Infallible Fixing Mist would be a better purchase just because it has more product but whichever you choose to go with you will get a good product. Now I am like those makeup gurus always finish my makeup with some spritz of a makeup setting mist.

Have you tried any of these makeup sprays? Or would you have any affordable alternatives to suggest to me?

January Favourites 2016

I am glad that January is at it’s end. I think January it’s my least favourite month of the year and it’s purely because it still is winter and no where near sprint. (Oh, I probably should clarify that my blog name means that I wish winters would only happen in dreams and not in real life.) With the end of month also comes my monthly favourites.

I have not used Maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyeshadow in On and On Bronze for quite a while. Until one day of this month when I applied it to my eyes and have done it quite a few times afterwords as well. I forgot how beautiful the colour is and it’s such a fuss free application. It’s an eyeshadow perfection in my mind and as you can see from the photo it has been well loved. I think I am half way through the eyeshadow and I do not have any one that has come as close to being used up as this one. On and On Bronze is a staple in my collection and I have re-kindled my love for it in January.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyeshadow does not need any primer as it stays on me for the whole day without budging. But for any other eyeshadows I have been using Sigma Eyeshadow Base in Persuade. The base is very creamy therefore it is easy to blend, meaning that you do not end up tugging your eyes too much which we all know we should try avoid doing. I have never tried MAC painterly pots but with Sigma product I do not feel ant need at all. It has not dried out and it’s going strong. Persuade is a light natural beige colour that helps to neutralise any redness on the eyes and I highly recommend getting it.

Another eye product that I have been enjoying using in January is the NYX Slide On, Glide On pencil in Brown Perfection. The colour name definitely stands true. It is a perfect brown colour to use for lining your eyes. I have been using this pencil on a daily basis as I think brown sometimes looks less harsh in daytime than straight black. The pencil really does apply easily and the formula is great. I foresee that NYX Slide On, Glide On pencil in Brown Perfection will be my forever repurchase item.

For the base I have finally started using Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation in 3 Fair and have not stopped using it since first application. The colour 3 Fair is a little bit too pale for me but I still can use it and get away as long as I use bronzer to warm up the face. I bought this foundation not fully convinced that I would like it, I was advised to use it with a brush but I think that it works best when applied with a wet sponge. It’s a bit too powdery and matte looking if you do not use a wet beauty sponge. It lasts well on my so anyone who has combination skin with oily t-zone would like it. I will think I will be using this until I get a tan (if I ever see sun).

So as you might guess my last favourite this month for applying the said Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation is a beauty sponge. I would not say that I have a preference for a specific brand but I would like to mention a type of product that I have found I now cannot apply my makeup without. When using any foundation that is more satin or matte it is best to apply with a wet beauty sponge which makes foundation look natural and also blended very well. I currently use Beuaty Blender and Real Techniques Complexion Sponge on a rotation and I like both of them. (I am starting to develop a stronger preference to one of them so watch this space for future posts on beauty sponge smackdowns).

What have you guys been loving in January? Do you like January or are you like me and prefer that it ends sooner than later?

An Empty Affair – August Empties 2015 Part 2

I bring you the part two of my August Empties posts. I must say that it is very nice to be writing this post because this means that I can finally clear out the shelve where I was keeping all this “rubbish” and actually through it out. Now that is a very satisfactory feeling. Here is what I am binning:

Patisserie Strawberry Cupcake Hand Cream – I always keep a hand cream on my work desk. One of my previous colleagues many years ago now said that she makes sure to moisturise her hands as they are used the most therefore the ageing process is most visible on them. Since then I make sure to take care of my hands. If I look after my face then I need to take care of my hands as much.

Burt’s Bees Honey Hand Cream – unfortunately this hand cream was not one my favourites. I don’t like honey and the smell of the hand cream puts me off.

Dove Purely Pampering Hand Cream –  another hand cream. I used this a lot after climbing as I always need cream after a climbing session.

La Roche Posay Nutritic Lip Balm – this is a very nice lip balm that feels light on the lips but does a good job of moisturising them. I have another one already and it’s a great one to keep at work.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – I have a post about this mascara (here) but I must say that since I have written it up I have changed my mind a little bit. At the end of using it I started liking a bit more than I originally did. I am now thinking that I should buy another tube of this and give it a second go to see what I really feel about it.

Hydraluron Moisture Gelly – a very nice day time moisturiser. I will definitely be getting this again one day.

Zara White Perfume – I do like this perfume and I like more that it does not break the bank.

Soap & Glory Ultimelt Hot Cloth Cleanser – It’s a nice hot cloth cleanser but I don’t know if I will be purchasing it again. It’s got a lot of essential oils and my sensitive skin does not like them too much. It also has some strong smell that I am not keen on. It’s nice but it’s just not meant for me.

La Roche Posay Serozinc – Need to get my hands on another bottle of this. I like to bathe myself in it and I miss it.

Dr Bronner in Bergamot – I used this soap for cleaning my brushes. It’s nice but it’s a little bit too pricey. I think I will stick to baby shampoos for washing make up brushes.

The Body Shop Honey Body Cream – I finaly used it up. As in my many posts I’m not the biggest fan of the Body Shop creams but I keep getting them as presents. The irony..

What should I get next to replace some of these products? Do you use any of them?

July Mini Haul

Ok, ok I put my hands up and admit that whenever I pop into the shop to look one thing up I always check what’s new in the whole shop. What if there is something new that I did not know about it and I need it? What if I don’t need it but it’s new and I might want it? Yes, I am one of those people who most likely will walk out of the shop with a few extra things than originally anticipated. My last trip into one of the high-street pharmacy shops led me to this mini haul that I would like to share with you.

I originally went into Boots looking for a toner. I’ve heard that they have the new Vichy Purete Thermale range in stock and I wanted to check it out. I ran out of toner so I though that it would be great to try the toner from that range. My understanding that Vichy Purete Thermale products have been made for sensitive skin with ‘city life’ in mind and I do prefer this type of sensitive skin products. I was very excited to see the Perfecting Toner on the shelves (Boots did not have it on their website when I checked) so I picked it up. It’s a very simple toner made from a few products which is exactly what I like. I use it after cleansing to make sure that all makeup is definitely removed as well as to take off any cleansers if there’s any residue left on the skin. So far I like this toner and see no issues with it.

After I picked the toner up, of course, I ‘had to’ browse makeup isles and check what’s new there. I spotted a few new nail polish colours in the Maybelline stall. They have released a Summer Bliss collection. I love their Super Stay 7 Day polish formula so it was no brainer that I should pop some of them into my basket. I chose Sun Kissed as it’s a perfect polish for the summer. Sun Kissed is a muted pastel-y orange and if you like Models Own Beach Bag then the Maybelline counterpart is a much more wearable colour with better application and formula. It goes on totally non streaky and stays on nails without chipping definitely more than 3 days. It is just perfect for this time when we are getting a bit of the tan. The other colour that I gravitated is Nude Rose. I thought it was also a new colour as I have never seen it before but it looks like it was released a while ago. I love muted pink nail polishes as they make my hands look really nice, they just suit my skin tone and my hands. I just could not not get it because it is such a me colour and I truly love it. I think Nude Rose can be warn throughout the whole year and I will get a lot of use out of it.

At the end of the shop I have decided to pick up my first Soap & Glory shower product. Why? Because I haven’t tried any of them. Sure, I have some of the Soap & Glory makeup and I have tried the hand cream but I never have used any of their soaps. I went for Whipped Clean Shower Butter as I wanted a nice moisturising product that I could use for shaving my legs. Yes, you read that right, shaving my legs! It is summer and I want to have my legs out to catch as much sun as possible so a girl needs to make sure that there is no hair involved in that. I have used it once already and it’s pretty great. It is is like a butter and very moisturising on the skin. It allows to get a great clean shave and also smells really nice. Definitely recommend trying it out if you haven’t. I’m hoping that the bottle will last for a while as it’s not super cheap in my opinion.

I’m happy I managed to leave Boots with only 4 products and not more. Have you done a haul recently? Have you tried any of the above products or have any good alternatives to them? Let me know.

An Empty Affair – April Empties 2015

Spring is finally here and I have started sorting out slowly through my make up stash and clearing out things that are old or not used any more. I have also been trying to finish up products so that I would have less of them (*or space for new stuff?*). These are the items that I have binned:

Dove Hair Nourishing Oil Care Leave-In Spray – I’m not sure if this did anything for my hair but I liked using it for the smell, it’s really nice. This leave in spray needs to be shaken before the use as it has two different layers which need to be mixed up. I actually did not finish this product because just as I had a quarter of it left the spray nozzle stopped working and did not distribute the product when spraying any more. I decided to give up and and just bin it. If you guys know any good detangling sprays please could you let me know?

Une Breezy Cheeks Blushes – these are cream blushes that I’ve got from fragrancedirect.co.uk. Une was a brand sold in Boots a while ago but disappeared from the shops very quickly. The blushes that I’ve got where quite brownish. burnt orange type colours that did not suit me at all. I wasn’t really using them and decided that there’s now point in keeping them – I will not use them and they will just take space in my drawers.

La Roche-Posay Serozinc – the much coveted French zinc spray that’s supposed to calm your skin and keep spots at bay. I’m not sure if this one also does much to my skin but I have used it up and have a second one on the go. I have rosacea so anything that claims to keep your skin calm and happy will be used by me.

L’occitane Rose Ultra Rich Body Cream – the cream was nice and it was used up by myself and my Man. I’m not too keen on Rose scented products so I don’t think I will rush to purchase this one.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion – love, love, love this product! I raved about it here and I will one day pick it up again.

Dove Maximum Protection Antiperspirant with Cucumber & Tea extracts – this deodorant is nice and I like to use it but can I just ask why the price is so high? Also, why do we have so little choice of cream deodorants here in UK? The shelves in the shops are crammed with the sprays but there is very little option of nice cream deodorants. I just going to wait till it’s on a discount to buy it cause I just don’t agree with paying £5 for an antiperspirant.

Make Up Forever Smoky Lash Mascara – I had high hopes for this mascara but it did not live up what the rest of youtube/blogging world have promised it to be. It was supposed to be a much better version of the L’Oreal Miss Manga mascara but actually the L’Oreal option is way better. It did not do much to my lashes, I felt like it was actually quite clumpy and instead of giving proper volume it just stuck lashes together. If there is one thing I can suggest is not to splurge on this one and just get a cheaper better alternative from the high-street. (Now when I think how I looked through Barcelona for Sephora to buy this makes me sad. So much effort for such disappointment.)

Philosophy Hope in a Jar moisturiser – I had this little sample pot from an order I made with Debenhams and was happy to try it out instead of splurging for the full size. I did not enjoy it as I felt like it was quite heavily scented and the scent was not very pleasing to my taste. Good to try it but would not go in any effort to purchase it.

Artdeco Eyeshadow Base – This eyeshadow base is similar to the famous MAC paint pots offer. I think Artdeco sell this in one colour but it would work on anyone. This is actually quite a great little product and I have gone through two of them. They do dry out so you need to use eyeshadows quite often to use up the whole little pot. If you can easily get your hands on Artdeco products then this is one to pick up. I don’t think I’m going to get this again because they are not sold everywhere as well as I think that Maybelline cream eyeshadows are the best thing ever.

This time I have finished some loves, some ok products and some products that were not worth it. Have you tried any of these items, what do you think about them?

Maybelline Lansh Sensational Mascara – my quick view

I think I’ve seen nearly every blogger/youtuber raving about Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara so one day when I have ran out of the ones I was using I gave it a shot.

What’s my verdict? It’s ok. I don’t see what other people see in this… It’s not terrible by any means but it’s not as impressive as I thought it would be. Mascaras have to impress me from the first time I apply them and this one is not it.

Have you tried Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara? What are your thoughts? Do you love it, do you hate ir or are you just like me saying “meh, it’s ok”?

An Empty Affair – February Empties

Everyone who likes to blog about beauty products know that satisfying feeling when a product has been finished. It not always means that you have enjoyed using the product but it definitely means that you have a new excuse to hunt for something new. Here are some products which I have recently finished using up.

Dove Oxygen Moisture Shampoo – I like Dove hair products and some of them I count very highly. The shampoo wasn’t a standout, it worked well but I’ve moved on to something new now. I don’t think shampoos in general ever impress me that much so I’m not saying that this was bad or good.

L’oreal Skin Perfection Serum – I could not wait to finish this serum. I don’t know why but every time I used it at night the next day I would wake up still feeling residue on my skin. I really don’t like to feel anything in the mornings and it just makes me feel uncomfortable. I will not be getting this again.

L’oreal EverRiche Hair Mask – though my hair is not that dry I really liked using this for the ends. I actually ended up using it as a conditioner rather just a hair mask. It did not weighed my hair and made the ends of the hair soft and manageable.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – my holy grail concealer. I am already onto another tube of this goodness. I use it all over my cheeks to hide any redness that the foundation was not able to cover. It’s just a great concealer and supper affordable.

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer – this was my second tube that I have gone through. I use it under my eyes and anywhere where I would like to highlight. It’s a great lightweight concealer, very easy to apply onto the skin and blend out. One day I will get this one again but for now I just want to try other things.

Johnson’s Baby Shampoo – yup, that’s right, a baby shampoo. Used up all this bottle for washing up makeup brushes.

Bodyshop Japan Adzuki Bean and Rice Scrub – I did not like this scrub. It literally was just grains without any essential oils so I did not feel like I could easily scrub my skin. Won’t be getting this again if I have to be honest with you.

Since I have taken this picture I have finished some other products so you might see an empties post coming your way pretty soon again. Have you tried any products above? If you have then let me know what are your opinions about them. And if you have any suggestions what I could replace them with then of course let me know.

January Mini Haul

Today I bring you a mini haul as I have ended up getting a few things online and in stores. I thought that you might be interested what has caught my eyes.

First up is Spectrum brushes. It’s a new brand to me which I’ve seen The Sunday Girl talking about in her blog. They seem to be super affordable and I have ended up getting some of their individual brushes. The sets that I wanted were sold out at the time when I was online but if I do like the ones I got then I’m pretty sure I’ll be ordering more from them. Seriously check out their website and you’ll be amazed by their prices and also don’t they just look gorgeous? I must say that I am slightly tired of black and white brushes and these just stand out. I’m sure I will write some in depth thoughts about them once I have put them into good use.

The other day I was in Superdrug and spotted new items on the Maybelline stand. As they had a 2 for £10 offer I’ve decided to grab a few things. It’s always interesting to try new stuff especially when they are truly new to the UK. I got Dream Flawless Nude liquid foundation and Lash Sensational mascara. Haven’t tried them yet but I do hope they won’t disappoint me. (There is nothing worse then realising that you won’t use the items that you have bought because they suck).

Have you guys seen any of these items? Have you tried them or would you like to try them?
